June 16, 2006—District Heights, MD—JK Moving & Storage will make its national TV debut on Friday, June 16, from 8 - 9 p.m., thanks to their contribution to HomeTeam DC, a nationally-syndicated reality/"cause" television show that airs in the Washington, D.C. market over WJLA-TV 7.
The Washington, D.C. version of HomeTeam will features the Crosson family of Prince George's County. Following the loss of his wife, Laurita, Phillip Crosson continued the family dream of owning their own home. For the last three years Crosson raised his three children, Sarita, Phillip, Jr. and Laronte, while attending school and working as a truck driver to provide for his family.
Once HomeTeam representatives heard the family's story, they were eager to help. HomeTeam selects deserving individuals and families from across the country and surprises them with a brand new home. HomeTeam provides these recipients with a cash down payment for their home and pays all housing costs—aside from utilities—for one year. HomeTeam also provides significant home improvements and furnishings along with life skills and financial coaching designed to create a solid foundation upon which the families can build and prosper.
To ensure a smooth transition for the Crossons into the new home, the show enlisted the services of JK Moving & Storage to provide the transfer.
"Giving back to our community is a critical part of what we do here at JK," said JK Executive Vice President Steve Kuhn, whose company provides dozens of charity moves annually for worthy organizations and individuals. "This is a story that touched us all.
We couldn't help but want to lend a hand."
On April 23, Kuhn and his team of movers packaged and shipped the entire contents of the Crosson's Landover apartment to their new single family home in District Heights, Maryland. The team remained at the home until HomeTeam's host and heartthrob Troy McClain presented the Crosson family with their first home.
"We were thrilled to play a role in providing these services to the Crosson family," said Kuhn. "Theirs is a wonderful yet sad story, and we're pleased to have played even a small role in helping this family achieve their dream."
