As Corporate Insurance & Claims Manager, Kerri Heigley keeps JK Moving Services protected and prepared. With a background in law and years of experience across several industries, she brings a deep understanding of risk management to every case she handles. Since joining the team in 2022, Kerri has found purpose in making a direct impact—not just on the company, but on the people behind it.
Bringing a legal mind to risk management
Kerri supports JK Moving through corporate insurance placement and by handling Workers’ Compensation, Auto, and General Liability claims within the Safety & Compliance Department. It’s a role that fits her perfectly, combining her legal education with years of hands-on experience in the field.
A law school graduate, Kerri originally intended to pursue litigation and had early career experience in law firms. That path took a turn when she accepted a role in risk management in the oil and gas industry. “It was unexpected, but it ended up being the right fit,” she shared. From there, she built a career spanning several sectors, including consulting and, more recently, the moving and relocation industry. “This position at JK feels like a return to what I enjoy most – working directly with the employer to make a difference.”
Passionate about making a difference
Kerri’s focus isn’t just on claims – it’s on people. She takes pride in helping employees recover from injuries and supporting the company during unexpected events. “As a consultant, I didn’t feel like I was having the impact I wanted,” she explained. “At JK, I like being in a role where I can help the company and injured workers when accidents happen.”
Throughout her career, she has taken on significant responsibility. She managed a complex $4 million flood claim independently and previously served on an executive team overseeing a department of claims professionals. Her approach combines a firm understanding of legal processes with a commitment to practical solutions that help everyone move forward.
Life beyond the office
Outside of work, Kerri’s life is full of family and activities. She and her husband, Brock, are raising two active kids, Brooke and Parker, whose schedules are packed with swim team, basketball, dance, and track. Kerri also lends her time to the community by coaching elementary basketball.
The household is rounded out by a trio of pets: a dog named Bailey and two cats, Delilah and Peanut. Between work, coaching, and cheering on her kids at events, Kerri still carves out moments to enjoy her favorite quiet-time activity – reading.
A few fun facts
Many of Kerri’s colleagues might be surprised to learn that she once took the stage as a wedding singer. “In my younger days, I did weddings,” she said with a laugh.
She’s also a fan of legal dramas and stories about justice. Her favorite movie is The Shawshank Redemption, a film that echoes her early interest in criminal defense law. “I originally thought I’d go that route professionally,” she shared. Although her path led to a different area of law, that same drive to advocate for others still fuels her work today.
Looking ahead
Kerri is focused on growing her knowledge and supporting the broader JK organization. “I want to learn more about JK Moving Services, JK Land Holdings, and CapRelo so I can be as helpful as possible,” she said.
She encourages those starting out in risk management to take initiative and keep learning. “Understand as many types of claims as you can – every state has its own rules. Take courses on insurance placement, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. The more you learn from experienced professionals, the better equipped you’ll be.”
