Tony Mercer: JK's 2023 Long-Distance Driver of the Year

We are thrilled to announce that Tony Mercer has been named JK’s 2023 Long-Distance Driver of the Year. Tony received the award, which includes a $5,000 bonus, based on his commitment to providing an outstanding customer experience and a focus on safety, while embracing JK’s core values and brand promise of care and respect.

Tony Mercer, 2024 JK Driver of the Year“Long-distance drivers are fundamental to our business success. That’s why every year we honor the very best. This year, it is Tony Mercer,” said David Cox, President, JK Moving.  “Tony has an outstanding safety record and takes great care of customers. In addition, he recruited a fantastic, trusted team to help him—his mother and two grown sons. Together they make the JK experience great for customers, and we are proud to have him and his family on our team.”

He has been a driver with JK since 2019. During his time with JK, Tony has conducted 60 JK moves per year, logging 300,000 miles. In addition to excellent customer service, Tony has a great record for safe driving.

The Long-Distance Driver of the Year award was announced at JK’s annual Long-Distance Driver Conference on Friday, February 23. These two-day events give all of the company’s long-distance drivers the chance to gather and share experiences with their peers as well as learn about updates from the corporate team. Tony joins a distinguished group of drivers, including last year’s winner, Brian Eckert.

Recognizing drivers’ important role, JK Moving increased annual guaranteed income for experienced Over-the-Road Class-A CDL Drivers to a minimum of $100,000. The competitive salary and benefits are twice the national average for the position.

Tony finds JK to be an exceptional company to work for, likening it to a supportive family where everyone looks out for each other, especially on the road. He really appreciates the Dispatch team, knowing they have his back while he’s away from home. If he or any of the other drivers need anything, they can count on them to provide support.

Tony is based out of Inwood, West Virginia and drives all 48 contiguous states to serve JK clients, along with his mother Joyce Shaff, who also has her CDL license, and sons DJ and Tony, Jr. While it can sometimes be challenging to work with his family, Tony cherishes the time he gets to spend with them on the road. He also has two daughters, a stepson, and six-year-old grandson. When he’s not driving for JK, Tony enjoys spending time hunting and fishing and spending time with his grandson, who also has developed a love of hunting and fishing.
