A successful 2nd annual event: Real-Life Stories About Moving, Downsizing, and Senior Living Communities

Senior roundtable

On September 18, JK Moving hosted the 2nd annual Real-Life Stories about Moving & Downsizing for Seniors event in partnership with the Positive Aging Sourcebook, Northern Virginia Senior Resource Network (NVSRN), and Loudoun Senior Interest Network (LSIN). Held at JK’s headquarters warehouse, this unique event was an incredible success, attracting nearly 110 attendees, including senior living professionals, families, and resource experts.

The interactive discussion, designed to highlight real-life experiences of moving and downsizing, fostered insightful conversations while offering practical solutions for seniors and their families. The standing-room-only crowd had the opportunity to tour JK’s state-of-the-art training house located in the warehouse, providing a tangible look at how JK approaches training for complex moves.

One attendee summed up the event perfectly, exclaiming, “This has turned into THE event of the season!”

A unique collaboration for positive aging

This special event was made possible by the collaborative efforts of several organizations, including JK Moving Services and the Positive Aging Sourcebook. Founded by Steve Gurney, the Positive Aging Sourcebook is a leading resource for senior living communities, offering support and information to families navigating the aging process. Through his work, Steve has cultivated a community that provides invaluable insights into senior living, housing options, and aging services.

Event highlights

Senior roundtable hosted at JK Moving's warehouseThis year’s event kicked off with a thoughtful introduction by JK President David Cox, who spoke about JK’s services, emphasizing how we serve the senior community with care and professionalism. The moderated discussion focused on the real-life challenges and solutions families face during the transition to senior living or downsizing. The interactive format brought together individuals who have recently undertaken senior transitions, either for themselves or on behalf of loved ones, offering their first-hand experience. Attendees also had the chance to speak with experts from senior living communities, downsizing specialists, and moving professionals before and after the discussion.

Looking ahead

With incredible feedback and interest from attendees, the event truly underscored the importance of continued education and collaboration in the senior living space. As we look toward the future, we’re excited to build on this momentum and potentially welcome even more attendees next year.

Steve Gurney’s enthusiasm for the event was palpable, and he hopes to make this a standing yearly event, a testament to the value of the discussion and resources provided. We’re eager to continue this tradition and foster a supportive, solutions-oriented community for seniors and their families.
