Our Employer of the Week series features one company each week that has made a commitment to hiring and supporting veterans. This week’s employer is JK Moving.
JK Moving is a local, long-distance, and global relocation company. From its humble beginnings in the basement of founder Chuck Kuhn’s parents’ house, JK Moving has grown in size and reputation. The company has helped moved both former presidents Bush, former Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson, and former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. Now they’re looking to hire veterans.
“We feel that hiring veterans is a real asset not only to our company but to the community and to the veterans,” Kuhn said. “Veterans have worked hard to serve our country and serve us. The same work ethic, the same reliability and dedication that they put forth in the Armed Forces work well within our organization. We find that they’re career-minded, they’re hard-working, they’re reliable, they’re fit, they’re drug-free, and they’ve been a real asset to our organization.”
JK Moving has a full-time staff to help connect veterans with the leadership training offered by the company in all aspects of the operation from the warehouse to crew base to drivers.
“All the things we did in the service we do here at JK — performance improvement plans, mentor programs, training programs, after-action reports to our training,” said Army veteran Brian McGuiness, JK Moving VP of Sales. “Similar to the military, the mission comes first and people always. Because we’re a business, our mission might be profit, but our mission truly is our core values as a company — doing the right thing, being kind and courteous, together we succeed. All those core values that are important to any business are important to any veteran.”
